Many elderly in Nepal have been suffering from hunger and loneliness. They lack appropriate clothes for both winter and summer. And, often time they do not have helping hands even for minimum household chores; cooking, laundry and many more. At the same they are deprived from comfortable bed with proper bedding. With no or limited access to medical treatment, they suffer from various diseases. This is a critical issue of their geriatric health, nutrition and meeting nutrition needs.
Nepal is in demographic transition and elderly population is rising. Younger members of the family are fleeing away from villages for better opportunities leaving the elderly behind and alone. Even in Kathmandu, the capital City, elderly aged 70-90 are suffering. Elderly men and women are forced to live alone, engaged in their daily routines; hands busy, hearts quiet. They need nutritious food (Best Energy Foods like protein-rich and calcium-rich options), and they need support with basic household tasks like washing clothes and cleaning. This highlights the urgent need to Feed the elderly and Help Older Adults Pay For Food.
This project aims to collect donations from friends, relatives, charity organizations, and provide each person with 10 kg of rice, 30 eggs, half kg of milk powder, and financial support of US$5 per month. In addition, the project will send helpers to assist with laundry and dishwashing. The financial support and rice will significantly alleviate their food problems. We plan to support them for five years, enhancing the lives of these seniors. These efforts will complement existing Senior Food Programs.
Long-Term Impact:
This project will support 50 elderly people aged 70 to 90, reducing their hunger and providing assistance in basic household chores. This will contribute to end senior hunger and ageing well in a meaningful way.
