Non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including cardiac disease, high blood pressure disease, and diabetes, are a leading cause of death and disability in Nepal. In 2019, NCDs accounted for 71.1% of deaths in Nepal, up from 31.3% in 1990. NCDs are projected to account for 78.64% of deaths in 2040. Factors like unhealthy lifestyles, globalization, trade and marketing, and economic transitions contribute to this trend. The increasing intake of junk foods among youth is contributing to serious health and diabetes challenges, including obesity, diabetes healthy, and cardiovascular diseases. These unhealthy habits, combined with a lack of knowledge about Eat Less Move More, are posing serious consequences on physical and mental health. Without proper guidance, students may struggle to maintain a balanced diet plan and preventive heart health practices. Health Education for schools is feasible and effective in improving knowledge and behavioral practices of non-communicable diseases (NCD) risk factors in adolescents in rural India (Deepika Singh Saraf, 2015). This includes a lack of understanding of blood pressure monitoring and the risks of high blood pressure and blood high blood pressure, contributing to the rise of hypertension and prevention.
The HEAL Group supports awareness-raising programs for students in grades 7–9 in secondary schools of Sunkoshi Rural Municipality. These programs are delivered by health teachers and focus on promoting key preventive measures, including engaging in regular physical work, maintaining a heart healthy lifestyle through a healthy balanced diet, avoiding junk food, and incorporating fiber-rich foods into daily meals. Routine follow-ups will be conducted to reinforce these practices and ensure sustained behavioral change, including prevention against diabetes.
HEAL Group’s school-based awareness programs equip students with lifelong habits to prevent non-communicable diseases (NCDs), including cardiac disease and diabetes. By promoting balanced diets, physical activity, and informed health blood pressure choices, the initiative reduces future health risks. Routine follow-ups ensure sustained behavior change, fostering healthier youth, lowering NCD prevalence, and building a more resilient, health-conscious
